Just Done It!!

After getting in remission at the end of 2008 I've been bent on living life to the full. Looking back I've just about lived a lifetime in 3 years. I hope this inspires others!! And this is only the tip of the iceberg with many more adventures in the making.

  • “Christ the Redeemer” in Rio de Janeiro, one of the 7 Wonders (visited with Lynne in Aug’07).
  • Great Pyramids in Cairo, one of the 7 Wonders (incredible family visit in Mar’08)
  • Great Wall of China, one of the 7 Wonders (visit with Jayson in May’09)
  • Snorkel the Great Barrier Reef, Australia (incredible family visit in June’10)
  • Climb Kilimanjaro, highest mountain in Africa (achieved in Sept’10)
  • Ride the Argus 110km cycle race (back in the saddle after 31 years!!, Mar’11)
  • The Coloseum in Rome, one of the 7 Wonders (visited with Lynne in Apr’11).
  • Large multi-disciplinary engineering projects (Designed large underground mine cooling system for Hecla silver mine in USA in record time. Designed and commissioned a 15MW cooling system at Cuiaba mine in Brazil in May 2011)
  • Climb Kilimanjaro with my son Jayson (achieved in July’11)
  • Get a Tattoo (Jayson and I got an identical large eagle tats in Aug’11)
  • Fund raising for The Sunflower Fund (Raised about R50,000 during 2011)
  • Join the Miles-4-Marrow cycle team to promote the Sunflower Fund (joined in Nov’11)
  • To get seeded in top 4% of cyclists in SA (achieved in Nov’11)
  • Inspirational Speaker (My first public talk at SANBS year-end function with Deputy Minister of Health present, Nov.11).
  • Start a Blood Drive at my workplace (Successfully started at BBE in Sept’11, now every 6 weeks)
  • Climb Aconcagua in South America with my son Jayson, (reached PB record height of 6700m in Jan’12)
  • Inspire other Leukaemia survivors (Inspiring article published in The Citizen newspaper, 17Feb’12)
  • Promote The Sunflower Fund (Get involved big time including radio talks. Became official ambassador in Feb’12)
  • Promote SA National Blood Service (Guest speaker at various events, became official ambassador in Apr’12)
  • Run a half marathon (Completed the 21km Cradle of Mankind run in 2:37 in Apr’12)
  • Rock climbing to overcome fear of heights (did grade 15 rock climbing at Shelter Rock in Magaliesberg, Apr’12)
  • Live Radio Talk show in studio (My first live interview on Radio Today on 3 May’12 – great podcast!!)
  • Sub-3 hour cycle race (achieved in 101km Bela Bela challenge, May’12,)
